Rock Your Disney Side 24 Hour Event Info and Tips

This Friday is the Rock Your Disney Side 24 Hour Event. Exactly 4 days away. Who is excited!!?? I know we are.

So what do you need to know? What should you wear? What should you bring? There are so many questions about this event and with it being this week, it seemed like the prefect time to post a blog about it. And I went to “One More Disney Day” in 2012, which was the first 24 hour event.

Basic Information

This information came straight from Disney’s website.

• Hours of operation for the event will take place from 6:00 AM, May 23, 2014 to 6:00 AM, May 24, 2014.
• Only select attractions, entertainment and services will be available.
• Valid theme park admission is required.
• Event is subject to restrictions and change without notice.

Costume Information

If you plan to dress up (yes it is ok, even if you are a grown adult), make sure to follow their rules.

• Costumes should be child-friendly and adhere to any guidelines determined by Disney.
• Costumes should not be obstructive, offensive or violent; drag on the ground; contain sharp objects, pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another Guest; contain any weapons or objects which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.
• Masks may be worn, but they must not obstruct vision, and eyes must be visible at all times.
• Guests who dress like Disney characters may not pose for pictures or sign autographs.
• Guests who do not adhere to these guidelines may be refused admission.

What Should I Bring?

  • Your ticket/pass/magic bands
  • Money
  • Water bottle
  • Phone
  • Camera
  • Your chargers*
  • Things for your children (sorry I am not a mother so I am not sure what all you need)
  • Hand sanitize
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug Spray
  • Snacks

*Magic Kingdom has placed charging stations in the park. One inside Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe and one in the Space Mountain gift shop. It is free to charge your phone/device, but you must swipe your credit card to make it work. They are lockers that are just big enough for one phone, so things like iPads will not fit.

What Should I Wear?

  • Shorts (the temperature is suppose to be 95° out)
  • T-shirt or tank top
  • Comfortable shorts

Other Things I Need to Know or Tips

  • When 6:00 am rolls around, you will be tired. Make sure you have safe plans of transportation. Especially if you are driving off Disney property. I know I had a really hard time staying awake during my 45 min drive home last year, so this time we got a hotel room on property for the 24 hours.
  • Except the park to be packed until about 2:00 am. During the day the lines will be very busy (we are even going to Magic Kingdom until midnight). Around 2:00 am, people with children start to head back to their rooms or houses so the park less busy. Last time around 4:00 am, I was able to ride all 3 mountains under an hour!
  • Stay hydrated. Whether you are there all 24 hours or just at night or whenever, you need water. Florida is hot, yes, but if you want to stay up that long drink water.
  • Wear sunscreen and bug spray. Trust me, if you are not from Florida you are not use to the sun here, it is different.
  • Bring snacks. If you are planning on staying in the park for the full 24 hours. Remember that is a lot of food you will be needing. Consider bring snacks so you don’t go broke in a 24 hour period.
  • Look for new food. Yes Disney has come out with unique food for this event. Make sure you save room to try some of it. And check out our posts with a list of the food for Magic Kingdom and Disneyland.
  • Try new rides and experiences. There is plenty to do at the MK. So during this 24 hour event make sure to try things you haven’t done or seen before.
  • Consider waiting till later to go to Magic Kingdom. Once the park opens on May 23, it will be packed the rest of the day. Maybe go to a different park if you don’t want to deal with the crowds.
  • Look out for different characters. Disney has stated that you can expect to see characters out that on a normal day you wouldn’t. Such as Maleficent, Cruella De Vil, the Big Bad Wolf, Stromboli from “Pinocchio,” and the Bowler Hat Guy from “Meet the Robinsons”.
  • Join in on the dancing. There will be dance parties all around the Magic Kingdom through the night. It is a great way to get your energy back up!

Be on the look out today or tomorrow for our post about food for this event.

Comment below if you are going and any tips you have or questions you still have. And let us know if there is something we should try while at the event!

Casey Corner

Madison’s Review

I order the hot dog meal. It comes with a big, plumb hot dog, and french fries. I am not a hot dog fan. Honestly I only went there because everyone talks about how good it is. And let me tell you, it was a good hot dog. It was juicy and quite big. They had so many toppings available too…ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, salsa, and much more. Of course they have different types of hot dogs like the chili cheese dog. I saw a couple of them and they were huge and looked so good. I will have to try that one next time. And of course the fries are delicious, just like all Disney fries. Overall, Casey’s Corner is very good. And a great place for a quick lunch.

Caseys hotdogs

Steven’s Review

I got the hot dog meal. Plain old american hot dog with ketchup. It was really good. The fries here are delicious in my opinion. Light brown, crispy and salty.  It’s definitely one of those good fatty hot dog places. It was fast service and not a long line so I definitely think it is a good place to stop by to get a quick bite.

Coral Reef

Location Epcot’s Future World
Type of Food Seafood
Price Range  $20-$30 Per Person

Coral Reef

Disney’s Coral Reef restaurant is located at Epcot’s Future World next to Nemo and Friends. It is a small seafood restaurant with a view of the aquarium. I believe you could probably get in without a reservation, but it is always better to be safe than sorry.

CR Bread

Madison’s Review

I really enjoyed everything about this restaurant. To start you are served bread with butter. I was not much of a fan of it. The bread was really hard, but the butter was good. For my meal I ordered the Catch of the Day which was corvina. It is a white flaky fish, similar to tilapia. It was served with mussels, roasted fennel, potatoes, and sausage. All topped with a spicy tomato sauce. It was all so good. I loved the corvina it wasn’t fishy tasting at all. The mussels, veggies, and sausage were cooked perfectly. The sauce was spicy so if you don’t like spicy I would not recommend it. But overall it was amazing. Steven’s steak was very good too. We glanced at the dessert menu, but nothing really sounded amazing that day. Although the couple next to us had some really good looking desserts. All in all, Coral Reef was wonderful. I read a lot of negative reviews online before we went, mostly about the service. Our service was fantastic. I definitely recommend it!

CR Fish

Steven’s Review

The dining area is not huge but you have a decent view of the fish tank no matter where you sit. They give a little chart on the different species of fish yet neglect to list the sharks. Yes, sharks are fish too.  Getting to the food however, I had the steak strip which was really good. In fact, this SEAFOOD place is known for the steak. I thought that was pretty ironic. I ordered mine well done. I do have to say it was crispy in some parts so if you have a thing for food being of consistent texture throughout you may not want to order this. There’s a sauce on it that is pretty good. Definitely not spicy so do not fret. It came with broccoli and mashed potatoes. The broccoli was nothing great but the mashed potatoes were yummy. You could really taste the cheddar in them. You are served bread as you wait for your dinner. It’s warm but kind of hard. This restaurant wasn’t what I was expecting but it was a good time.

Madison’s Review

First I was to mention that you need to be prepared to really listen and yell. The waiters have to yell over music and people talking, so it is hard to hear what they are saying.

The appetizer was overall pretty good. I was loved the pineapple cubes. They were so juicy and fresh. The coconut pineapple was bread was really good too. I probably ate more than I should have of it. The soba noodle salad wasn’t bad. I ate a good amount of that. It had a lot of flavor.

The main course was fair. I really only liked the pulled pork and the vegetables.  The roasted chicken was bad. I didn’t really like the ribs. And the rice did not leave an impression on me at all. The biggest problem was had was the food got cold so fast, but we were their in the winter. So keep that in mind.

The dessert was the best part. Honestly the look of it was not amazing, I was kind of iffy about eating it. But you don’t want to skip it. It was so warm and delicious. I was so full, but it was so good I didn’t want to stop eating it.

The show was okay. It is split up into 3 acts. Honestly we were late and missed the 1st act, but it doesn’t seem like we missed much. The best part was the 3rd act. That is were all the action is. Overall the Spirit of Aloha is fun experience to check out. It isn’t something I think I would spend the money to go bad for. But it is fun for a special occasion.

Steven’s Review

I really like the coconut pineapple bread. It had be the most addicting thing on the menu. The pineapple cubes were delicious and I am not a big fruit person.

There’s really nothing to dislike with the main course. The only thing I would note is to not expect anything totally amazing. It’s good food and an ample amount but it didn’t make my mouth water so much after I tasted it. You also have to eat quickly or else the food gets cold because you are outside. (Well we went in the winter time.) The chicken was the best meat in my opinion. The vegetables are fairly good too. You definitely will be stuffed but you must must save room for dessert.

Dessert was shockingly my favorite. I am a picky eater so yeah I didn’t want to eat the pineapple bread pudding with caramel sauce. Let me tell you… if you don’t try it you are missing out. I’ve never tasted anything like it and it is pretty good.

The show itself was amazing especially the fire dancer. It was sometimes hard to participate in the show and eat at the same time but you learn how to manage. Our waitress was fairly attentive to our needs. She constantly asked if we wanted more of anything and gladly brought it too us. So don’t feel bad if you order more… you’re suppose to! This show is all about enjoying life and having a good old time.

The Flower and Garden Festival takes place at Epcot each spring at Walt Disney World. The event first began in 1993 and has always been all about gardens and being green. A few years ago they began incorporating food into this festival. This year it runs from March 5 – May 18, 2014. Make sure to pick up your Garden Passport!

We did not eat at every booth, nor did we try everything at each booth we visited. Here are our views of what we did get though.

The Smokehouse: Barbecue and Brews

Location American Adventure
Type of Food Barbecue
Price Range Around $5 per plate
Family Friendly Yes
Overall Rating 3 Stars

Madison’s Review:

I ordered the Smoked Turkey “Rib”. I really enjoyed it. It looked like a miniature turkey leg. There was no sauce on it but they did have barbecue sauce over by the silverware. The flavor was very good, but the turkey its self was kind of dry.

Smoked Turkey Rib copy

Steven ordered the Pulled Pig Slider with Cole Slaw. Now for a “slider” it was huge. I really liked it. The bread was delicious. I am a big fan of coleslaw on my pulled pork sandwiches so this was perfect for me.

I enjoyed this stand overall. And best of all they had two large buckets of these little bottles of Tabasco Sauce you could have for free.

Steven’s Review:

I ordered the Pulled Pig Slider with Cole Slaw.  It looked pretty good but I was disappointed with how it tasted. It was kind of dry even with the barbecue sauce and I really didn’t care for the coleslaw on it. I don’t really like coleslaw though. The bun itself was good but the meat was not what I was expecting. I don’t recommend this item if you are expecting a good barbecue snack.

Madison ordered the Smoked Turkey “Rib”. The appearance of it is interesting because it looks like a chicken leg but it is not. I actually enjoyed them. They weren’t juicy but rather dry like Madison said but I thought it made them taste good.

Although the ribs were good, I do not highly recommend this booth unless you have low expectations.

Lotus House

Location China
Type of Food Chinese
Price Range Around $5 per plate
Family Friendly Yes
Overall Rating 5 Stars

Madison’s Review:

The Vegetable Spring Roll was the only thing we ordered from the Lotus House. They were amazing. I think they were my favorite thing I ate that day. I was surprised that you get two of the rolls instead of one. I really liked the sauce too, but it is spicy so be careful. You should definitely try them!

Steven’s Review:

Madison and I shared the vegetable spring rolls. Delicious! I can’t recommend them enough. They’re not greasy at all but do let them cool off because when they hand them to you they are HOT!

Urban Farm EATS

Location Entrance of World Showcase
Type of Food “Urban”
Price Range Around $5 per plate
Family Friendly Yes
Overall Rating 4.5 Stars

Madison’s Review:

Steven and I shared the Ghost Pepper dusted Tilapia with crisp Winter Melon Slaw and Mint Oil. It was so good. The ghost pepper made me nervous since it is the hottest pepper, but it wasn’t really spicy at all. The fish was cooked perfectly. The slaw was ok. It mostly consisted of carrots and onions with a little bit of melon. And the mint oil really didn’t have much of an effect on the flavor that I could tell. But overall it was really good and I recommend it.

Ghost Pepper Tilapia copy

Steven’s Review:

The tilapia impressed me for fish that came from a booth. It really is worth the money. There is a greenish sauce on it which made me hesitant to try the fish, but you don’t even taste it. It is fish so of course it tastes fishy. Even if you don’t like fish or that fishy taste, I would still recommend you try it. It’s a delightful, healthy snack.
